In Brief

TCL CSOT plans a dual-mode monitor with 4X refresh rate switching, reaching up to 640 Hz at 1080p, potentially featuring OLED technology.

One of the major display makers in China is planning to introduce a dual-mode monitor that can quadruple the refresh rate.

TCL CSOT Reportedly Prepares 4X Refresh Rate Dual Mode Monitor, Featuring 160–640 Hz Refresh Rate

If dual-mode monitors weren't sufficient for you, TCL CSOT might have something in the near future that will take these monitors to the next level. As per IT Home, TCL CSOT, a prominent display maker in China, has planned to introduce a dual mode monitor that can quadruple the refresh rate, unlike regular dual mode monitors that can only double it.

The new monitor is said to offer 4X refresh rate switching, increasing the refresh rate from 160 Hz all the way up to 640 Hz. Unlike conventional dual mode monitors, you would usually get 320 Hz after switching from a high resolution 160 Hz mode. With the TCL CSOT's model, the jump will be quite dramatic. It is likely going to boast a 4K (not confirmed) resolution with 160 Hz, and can switch to an impressive 1080p@640Hz.

Previously, HKC also announced a similar offering, featuring 4K dual-mode configuration that can run at 200 Hz at 4K and at 800 Hz on FHD resolution. ASUS also has similar offerings that reportedly offer 3X and 4X refresh rate switching. Apart from the refresh rates, not much has been revealed regarding the specifications, let alone pricing and availability.

It's not clear whether TCL CSOT will utilize the IPS or OLED panel on the monitor, but considering the company is one of the leading manufacturers of OLED, we might see the OLED offering. Given that ASUS has its ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen 2 with 3X refresh rate switching utilizing the IPS panel, we could also see an IPS panel on the TCL's model. We will update you once we hear more about the monitor.
