"At 16 years old, what happened to me... I was outraged about this," Lewis recounted, "And I knew, at that age, the rest of my life, my work was going to be about community and engaging." Lewis found solace and direction within the Boys & Girls Clubs himself, describing it as a "safe space" that offered opportunities he wouldn't have otherwise encountered. He vividly recalls how the club's basketball league, at age 12, was his first introduction to life outside his immediate neighborhood.
