The Virginia Governor signed a law to amend the Code of Virginia, to enhance information sharing between the Department of Taxation and health-related agencies for determining medical assistance eligibility. The law authorizes the Department of Social Services to share client information with the Department of Taxation and requires tax return forms to include voluntary consent mechanisms allowing taxpayers to permit sharing their tax information with the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange and medical assistance agencies. These provisions will become effective for taxable years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2026. [H.B. 1529, enacted 04/08/26]
