Just 48 hours after the BC High boys’ lacrosse team stunned St. John’s Prep, ending its 52-game in-state win streak that dated back to 2023, the softball world nearly experienced a similar seismic shakeup.
Visiting Hockomock archrival King Philip, top-ranked Taunton’s own win streak — which also dates back to 2023 — appeared safe as the Tigers built a 7-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.
That’s when things got wild, as chronicled by Globe correspondent Matty Wasserman. The second-ranked Warriors — the last team to beat Taunton — rallied for six runs, forcing extras. But South Carolina-bound junior Blair Bourque delivered an RBI double in the eighth and the Tigers escaped with their 62nd consecutive win.
Correspondent Cameron Pellegrino took in Lincoln-Sudbury boys’ lacrosse, ranked No. 3 in the state, as they feature another talented roster with aspirations of ending the Prep’s five-year title run.
And our Trevor Hass spoke with new Princeton women’s basketball coach Lauren Gosselin, who was known as Lauren Battista when she was setting records and winning state titles at Oliver Ames and Bentley.

After ending St. John Prep’s 1,000-day streak of in-state perfection, things didn’t get any easier for BC High lax, which traveled to Providence to pay visit to Moses Brown. Thanks to senior Nick Bodner’s second goal of the game, which came in overtime, the Eagles emerged with a 6-5 win to stay undefeated at 6-0.
It wasn’t a big day for blasts, although both Nobles senior Takeru Matsuzaka and King Philip sophomore Cheyenne Murray might disagree, as they each cleared the fence with a three-run shot. Nobles junior Luke Leger, Nantucket freshman Chloe Washington, and Taunton senior Tori Corrao also left the yard.
Kevin Andriolo and Ryan Brennan, Tewksbury — Andriolo, a junior, was nearly unstoppable, winning 16 of 18 faceoffs, and Brennan, a sophomore, helped end a lot of those possessions with a career-high seven goals in a 13-3 lax win over Woburn.
Tara Battaglino, Wellesley — It may have come in a 15-11 girls’ lacrosse loss to Cohasset, but it was hard to ignore her nine goals and 11 draw controls, giving the senior 31 goals, 16 assists, and 45 draw controls through four games.
Nick D’anna, Malden — The sophomore showed off all his tools with 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 steals, and 4 RBIs in a 10-1 win over Lynn Tech.
Cole Henebry, Nobles — The junior was brilliant on the mound, spinning a three-hit shutout with one walk and 11 strikeouts over seven innings to blank Middlesex, 9-0.
Cormac Heney, Hamilton-Wenham — The senior rapped out three hits, which delivered six RBIs in a 26-0 rout of Rockport.
Julia Kipperman, Nauset — The senior was simply unstoppable, erupting for 13 goals in an 18-7 girls’ lacrosse win over Sharon.
