WASHINGTON (7News) — Families across Washington, D.C. will have access to a wide range of free activities for young people during spring break , city leaders announced.
Mayor Muriel Bowser and the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation are promoting a full week of programming from April 11 through April 18 aimed at keeping kids and teens active, engaged, and safe while school is out.

The lineup includes outdoor games, talent shows, arts programming, horse riding, lifeguard training, and ice-skating lessons. Many of the events are spread across recreation centers throughout the District, offering options for families in multiple neighborhoods.
One of the featured attractions is a pop-up indoor amusement experience at the Kennedy Recreation Center, where children can enjoy inflatables, games, and other activities. Community celebrations are also planned, including a spring festival at the Rosedale Community Center and an outdoor field day at the Barry Farm Recreation Center.
Teens can take part in creative and performance-based events, including a youth talent show at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center and a hands-on design workshop at the Columbia Heights Community Center. A themed dance for families will also be held at the Emery Heights Recreation Center.
For those interested in unique experiences, DPR is offering a one-day horse education program with transportation from the Hillcrest Recreation Center, as well as lifeguard certification training at local aquatic centers.
Additionally, 12 indoor pools across the city will remain open during the break, giving families opportunities for recreational swimming.
Youth can also take advantage of free skating and lessons at the newly opened Fort Dupont Ice Arena, where District residents 17 and under will receive complimentary admission and skate rentals during designated times.

City officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to provide safe, structured activities for young people year-round. The Department of Parks and Recreation offers thousands of programs annually, serving tens of thousands of youths across the District.
